Protocol Development

description

The WindX project (now CleanAct) is undergoing a major overhaul in order to make the program more corporate-friendly. As a part of this evolution, CleanAct needs to function in a centralized, managed environment, and this means that client and server services need to communicate with each other.

In short, a protocol needs to be developed for this communication to take place over the network. Our attempts at such a protocol are beginning to take form. We are trying to base this protocol off of similar existing protocols. Preliminary functions involve two main modes of communication:

Request/Transmit
Consisting of a number of four-letter pseudo words, this mode of communication will indicate actions to perform.

Format:
COMMAND [space] VALUE [space] VALUE

Example:
HELO ‘AppName’ VER ‘Major.Minor.Revision’

Response/Receive
Consisting of a number between 000 and 999, this mode indicates status.

Format:
nnn

Example:
200
